photo shoot!

Dear dear blog reader,
It’s been too long!  Anyway, I hope things are going well with you.  I had a really fun photo shoot last week with Grayson Dantzic ( www.GraysonDantzic.com) down in Red Hook, Brooklyn.  I’m attaching a couple images from that here.  If you need some photos taken, Grayson’s the guy to do it!
Gonna be interviewed on Boston University’s WTBU (89.3) this coming Friday morning at 10am and playing in Cambridge, MA at 7pm that night at the Lily Pad.  Would love to see you there.  That’s all for now.

Halloween!!

Dear Blog Reader,

Right now I'm supposed to be getting dressed for a halloween party but I thought I'd write to you instead.  It's snowing here and it's effing cold and it's going to take considerable effort to leave the house in heels.  This year I'm going as Lisa Vander-whats-her-name from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.  I wont lie, Blog Reader, my costume is half-assed.   But I'm going to a party at some old friends' house and they will accept my so-so costume without judgement.
This past week I was down in Philadelphia mixing my new record with the very talented Pete Donnelly.  It's sounding great and is one step closer to being done.  Soon I will post the new songs online.  You're getting very sleepy...soon you will buy several thousands of copies of my new CD...
Anyway, I better get ready for this halloween party.  Oh, my band and I are playing in Philly tomorrow night ( Sunday, 10/30/11) at 9pm at the Triumph Brewing Company.  Come on by.  It'll be fun

Art Start benefit party this Friday 9/30/11

What's goin on, Reader?
You've probably heard me talk ad nauseam about Art Start at some point.  It's an amazing organization that I've been volunteering with for the past three years, helping to teach art & music workshops to kids in homeless shelters.  Art Start provides a vital outlet for the kids they serve and I love volunteering with them.  I'm also excited that I'll be performing with my band at their benefit party this Friday night.  It's at Manny's on Second: 1770 Second Ave.  The event starts at 8pm and I'll probably be performing sometime around 10pm.  If you can't make it to the event but would still like to support Art Start, you can do so online through their website: http://art-start.org/support/donate/
Also, Bill Cosby is hosting their next fundraiser at Town Hall on Oct. 13th.  Who doesn't like Bill Cosby!

PS  I'm attaching another picture from my Ireland trip.  It's the edge of the cliff ( 300 ft drop) near Dun Angus on Inish Mor.

Mississippi Riverboat

Dear reader,
Today I'm in a bit of a rush so am just uploading a picture and a brief note.  I took this picture off the back of a riverboat on the Mississippi River in New Orleans earlier this summer.   I love New Orleans. Such a vibrant city with incredible people, music, culture and history.  I'm sure it's haunted.  New Orleans inspired two songs on my upcoming record: "Riverboat Gamblers," and "Easter Morning, New Orleans"... Went all the way to Ireland to record songs about the American South : )
Anyway, that's all for now.

the boat ride to Inish Mor

Dear Faithful Reader,

Still working furiously around the clock on this video-upload business.  Here's another photo to tide over your insatiable curiosity about my Ireland trip.  It's from the boat ride out to Inish Mor, the biggest of the Aran Islands which are located in Galway Bay on the West Coast of Ireland.

videos

dear blog reader,
I am trying to figure out how to upload a video or two I took in Ireland. This could take some time but watch this space as it is bound to happen eventually. In the meantime, here is a picture of Aughnanure Castle in Oughterard for you to contemplate. xxjk

Recording in Ireland

Dear blog reader(s?),
This past summer I was busy co-writing a whole bunch of new songs with my band, Radio Gold (John Kengla, Rob Heath and Jason Loughlin). A couple weeks ago we all traveled to remote Moate, Ireland where we recorded these songs at the incredible Grouse Lodge Recording Studio (http://grouselodge.com/content.php?ID=1). This was an amazing experience. Grouse Lodge is situated in the middle of the beautiful Irish countryside. Its visionary owner, Paddy Dunning, transformed 275-year-old, crumbling farm buildings into a state of the art recording studio where the likes of Michael Jackson, Muse and Snow Patrol have all worked. This experience was truly spectacular and I’m extremely grateful for it. I’m also excited about these new songs. I really love them and hope you will too. We’ll be playing them tomorrow night in Philadelphia at Lickity Split at 10pm. If you’re in the area, swing by. I’m posting a picture of my band and me at Grouse Lodge, along with our wonderful engineer, Fintan Moore.

Upcoming Album - The Devil is Jealous of You

I will be releasing a new record this spring. Here's some more info about it:

February 10, 2011

Dear friends,

I’ve booked a last minute show in Providence, RI on February 16th at 8:30pm at the Spot Underground so I’m breaking my emailing-you-only-once-a-month rule to notify you of this very important information.

I’ve attached the artwork (by the very talented Shawn Stucky) that will be on the cover of my new record. I wanted to call this record, “And We Washed Our Weapons in the Sea” after a song of this title that I wrote in the Fall. I pinched this phrase from a lecture by Joseph Campbell in a TV series he did called Mythos (in it he connects the common stories and themes in all the world’s major religions- really interesting!) and I think he was quoting Homer at the time—anyway, I didn’t make it up. I did a google search on this phrase and it turns out there’s a punk band in DC with an album of this title so, back to the drawing board. I’ve decided to call the record “The Devil is Jealous of You” after another track on the album. I will reveal the origins of this name in my next email.

I’ll let you carry on with your Thursday.
